Description

Gecko Nebula (LBN 437 & Sh2-126 LAC) - Trying to breath life into an old lizard (TS94)

This is data that I had captured for quite some time back with the TS94, but I felt the data was too ‘tainted’ with flaws, too short on integration time, to be worthwhile. I had tried a couple of processing runs in the past, but felt I couldn’t bring this to a decent quality level, so the Gecko never came out the shrubs …

I decided to give it one last go …

The background is a bit flawed in my opinion, and there seems to be a bit of an artefact in the Ha cloud (not sure what's causing this). Wasn’t sure if I would post this, but LBN 437 seems to come out nice enough …

Not the quality and integration time that I would've wanted on this object, but it looks like I won’t be chasing lizards for some time … so, I’m setting this Jurassic animal free …

The Gecko Nebula, LBN 437, is a molecular cloud in the constellation Lacerta against the backdrop of the large emission nebula Sh2-126 (The Great Lacerta Nebula). It sits at distance of about 1,200 light years. The red emission nebula is the northern part of the much larger Sh2-126 (running outside of the image). The ‘head’ of LBN 437 contains some bright young stars, creating some Herbig-Haro objects (bright patches of nebulosity associated with newborn stars. They are formed when narrow jets of partially ionised gas ejected by stars collide with nearby clouds of gas and dust at several hundred kilometres per second)
